Waterways World Online (January 2022):

"Boaters in London's Greenland Docks have been presented with a civic award for their efforts in helping the local community during Covid lockdowns.

Sisters Miryam and Patricia Brizuela, who operate Marine Canvas Hut, a boat cover business in the Rotherhithe docks, have been honoured at an awards ceremony at Southwark Cathedral in London.

During the lockdowns when they were unable to operate their normal business they turned their hand to creating 10,000 visors to help fight Covid-19, enlisting fellow boaters as volunteers.

The sisters came to our attention last year when they organised the third annual South Dock & Greenland Docks Boat Lights Festival (WW February 21)

“Every year we aim to make it more inclusive for our community – not just boats but also nearby flats,” Miryam told WW.

The fourth event (Christmas 2021) was their biggest Boat Lights Festival so far. It including illuminated kayaks, sea shanties and carols around the docks, in addition to more boats lit spectacularly.

You can see pictures and videos, along with plans for the 2022 event here. "
